This is my intended route tomorrow until Saturday but you know what they say about best laid plans! It’s not the GPS units per say but the user interface between GPS, one’s computer, and internet mapping sites such as Google Maps that get my undies in a twist. I spent the better part of Sunday trying to figure out how to add routes I had planned on Google Maps on the internet to Google Earth on my computer to my Garmin 705 hand held GPS. Turns out that I had to install three programs onto my computer in order for a fourth to work and I still am not sure that it worked. In three days I am flying to Pittsburgh to meet up with several fellow Bike Forums members for a five day ride to Washington, DC. Our route will take us along the Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to Cumberland then connecting to the old C&O rail line from Cumberland to Washington. Along the railroad grade trails are great tunnels, tow paths, aqueducts, and battlefields. It travels through some of the most significantly historical areas of US history.
A possibility that we are looking at: Why Chico? To visit my friend Frank whom I haven’t seen in over 20 years. But who knows, maybe after the visit we’ll continue south to SF to visit my little sister, LA to visit the eldest sibling, and then Mexico to top it off… |
